THE BIG DAY!

So the big day's arrived at last and you're on your way to the school reunion. After all your preparation you should be in great shape both mentally and physically. Even so, you probably have some butterflies in your stomach. Resist the temptation for Dutch courage. You're going to need a clear head tonight so stay clear of the booze. You can be sure some of your erstwhile classmates will overdo things and make fools of themselves. But you know better. Take a few deep breaths.

Walk into the room and smile. Search out a familiar face and get ready for small talk. As you swap pleasantries scan the room for faces from the past. With all your preparation you should be able to recognise most people and you'll know who to approach and what to say.

Whatever you do, be honest. It's human nature to exaggerate especially in front of your peers but honesty is really the best policy. In this wired world people have easy ways to find out that your teller no 3 and not chairman of the bank.

And resist the temptation to revert to your secondary school persona. People have moved on and what made you appear so charming 20 years ago in the school yard would surely bomb if you tried it today.

The main thing you should remember to do at your school reunion is to enjoy yourself. It can be an emotional roller coaster but you should leave the event feeling you've rediscovered your past and hopefully discovered new and wonderful things about yourself.
